Q: What happens with my details when I register?
A: When you sign up via Trybooking.com we are provided with your contact details, which we will only use in accordance with the event Terms and Conditions. This includes sending you transactional emails, communicating with you in preparation for the event, and making sure we have your health and emergency contact details to hand on the night in case they're needed. If you choose to fundraise on behalf of one of our partner charities, we will also share your contact details with them so that they can connect with you and support you in your efforts to secure sponsorship from friends, family, and colleagues.
Q: Where and when does the walk start?
A: We depart from The Connection at St Martin’s, right near Trafalgar Square. It is a central, iconic London location. Registration opens at 18:45 and the first wave of walkers will depart at 19:45 and will be staggered in waves from then on - we'll update you nearer the time with all relevant details. Because this is a night walk, you will experience the city in a completely unique atmosphere.
Q: Is it safe to walk at night?
A: Yes. Safety is our priority. This is not a solo mission, you will be supported by our fantastic team. There will be someone leading the way and "tail walkers" at the back to ensure no one is left behind. Walkers are supported by marshalls on bikes who ensure they know where everyone is.
Q: Do I need to be a serious athlete?
A: Not at all. The 10K takes between two and three hours and is achieveable for almost anyone who can walk comfortably. The Half Marathon takes between four and five hours, and whilst it's a good challenge, it's very achievable. The Marathon route is a serious endurance challenge taking 8+ hours, and we recommend doing some training for this distance.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Comfort is key. In terms of footwear, we suggest trainers or worn-in walking boots (please do not wear brand new shoes on the night - blisters are no fun!). London nights can get chilly, so wear layers that you can easily take off but that you can put on again if you start to get cold.
Q: Can I walk on my own or do I need a team?
A: You can absolutely sign up on your own! You will instantly be part of a walking group. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people. If you are signing up with friends, just let us know at registration so we can slot you into the same walking wave.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: This is London - we walk anyway! The event will go ahead in rain or shine. Please check the forecast and bring a waterproof jacket and brolly if needed.
Q: Where does the money go?
A: You have full control. During registration, you can nominate a specific partner charity from our list to receive your funds. Alternatively, you can select "The Community Pot" via London Homeless Collective. London Homeless Collective runs the event ad aims to increase funding to the London homeless sector, specifically the smaller charities.
Q: Can I choose which charity I support?
A: Yes. We have a selection of partner charities involved in the event. When you sign up, there is a dropdown menu where you can nominate one specific organization. 100% of the funds you raise (minus standard platform processing fees) will go to them.
Q: What if I don't have a preference?
A: That is perfectly fine - many walkers choose to support the collective effort! Simply select "The Community Pot" when you register. We will then distribute your funds across the partner charities, ensuring the money goes to the projects that need it most urgently at the time.
Q: Can I support a charity that isn't on the list?
A: If a homeless charity you want to support isn't on the list, please let us know and we'll get in touch with them.
Q: What will my participation help to achieve?
A: London, and Westminster in particular, has the highest level of homelessness anywhere in the UK. This includes families living in temporary hotel accommodation, single people that are 'sofa surfing' with friends, and people sleeping rough. Our partners are all working to provide the practical and emotional support needed to help people out of homelessness and into suitable, secure, permanent accommodation. The money you raise will contribute to this mission,
